I’m sticking with i’ve thought about a while ago, to recap, I’m going to produce a serious of pints depicting One fictional city from different perspectives, which invoke the feelings of awe, fright, insignificatsence, Impending doom, big feeling like that. Why Because I have too.

So as u can see from the Picture I’ve got my Plates together, cut and marked out ready for the first print, which is just a sort of foundation print. Something to build my print on. Once that is done I need to get busy drawing and cutting my prints, so ill update when that’s on the go.

Its Not Going Too Well

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 211px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/SeUMlS9oavI/AAAAAAAAAMA/snixTw2c5JY/s320/DPP_33378.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324675969320512242" />
Got about 5 weeks to go........so I need to pull my finger out.....here is a picture I took of a dead Rat. The weather was good, but not too good for Photography, the sun being too bright and it being a bit smogy on the horizon. So didn't get many good pics, one or two which I will post here, the rest are on my Flickr Page which is and Huw's is
One day i 'm going to have to go some place awesome, with good lenses, I borrowed Huws for this trip, which was nice. So maybe after uni ill take it up as a serioues hobby. God i wish i did photography in uni, Fine art is no longer for me.
Also I wasted a fair bit of time renaming my photos on my Flicker pages with this like the 10 uglyist deep sea fish, Jack the Rippers Victims, Other names for Steel and iron. I thought it be better than DP100000 and shit like that.

The Road

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 100px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/Sb-_BzxsvDI/AAAAAAAAALo/Cg5lGC6j4RI/s320/the+road+image.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5314176123119909938" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/Sb-_BeZvsxI/AAAAAAAAALg/wgPRr6xryAA/s320/The-Road-movie-02.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5314176117382296338" />
UM...I’ve read a few things during this project outside of uni that have a lot to do with the work I’m threatening to make. These being 2000ADs Thrang's Future shocks, The Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons Again, 2000ad in general, The Road by Cormac McCarthy, the Filth by Grant Morrison, And I’ve Started reading J Conrad's The Heart Of Darkness. Other stuff I’ve read this year that has nout to with Uni is Babylon's Burning: From Punk to Grunge By Clinton Heylin, Vic Reeves's Sun Boiled Onion and The last volume of The Losers by Steve Diggle. All these Books were Awesome.
However the Road is connect to my prints for obvious reasons. The book has these bleak descriptions of a post apocalyptic America and my prints are messy images of some post apocalyptic city. Though out the book there are these briefs descriptions of the landscape like this" In The long gray dusk they crossed a river and stopped and looked down from the concrete balustrade at the slow dead water passing underneath. Sketched upon the pall of soot downstream the outline of a burnt city like a black paper scrim". So there’s plenty to take from for my prints. Again very good book, I think this is the only post Apocalyptic book I’ve read with no Sc- Fi, mad max themes in at all, which is nice, and which makes it a very bleak and terrifying book, but it got this father and son things that is very umm sad and tender.
Also they are making a film of it, very good people involved, including John Hillcoat, Viggo Mortensen, Nick Cave and best of all Omar from the Wire Michael Kenneth Williams ( oh how I miss the wire , also I’m currently reading Homicide By David Simon, creator of the Wire.). Should be good.

Last Chance

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 232px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/Sb5hdL0ZzgI/AAAAAAAAALY/ytCuZknUuCw/s320/be+to+finished.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5313791764360449538" />
Got about 8 weeks left so I need to work....here is a four week time table, I need to get two prints completed in that time. I thought that removing the boarders and using collage and layering to create repetitive patterns would achieve this, and to some assent it does. The images does give the sense of an endless gray, concrete city stretching beyond the horizons; however I need to recreate this on a much larger scale and to execute it more accurately in the print making room.
The images would also benefit from being edited with on Photoshop, but there’s no time for that.
I also created some images with a red tint to see how that would look. I like it, but I’m not sure if it would open a big can of worm problems, like why red and a not another colour? also keeping the red the same tone on all prints would also be difficult and again there’s no time.

"Cocksucker!".

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 234px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/SbgzgS0h2RI/AAAAAAAAAKg/hTamZG5spho/s320/DPP_0001577.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312052390384490770" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 211px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/SbgzgKa9gNI/AAAAAAAAAKY/qE3fCwwT_3A/s320/DPP_000157.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312052388129767634" />
"No! It’s ok, but doesn't solve many of the problems already mentioned. But it’s a start. A very late start. Need to start a new one this week! Must complete about one print every two weeks now, tall order.
I’ll work on the print though with pen...fix it up a bit. I did also produce a colour version...but as I’m creating a serious of prints depicting the same city i need to keep them all consistent, which is a problem with mixing colour.
Next print i, m going to work on will be a lot smaller and from the point of view of looking up, woo.

NO! 9 WEEKS LEFT.

Only 9 weeks left, going to fail this year again if I don't do something about it now. Anyhow I’m redoing my statement of intent. I know what I need to do and I’ve got a good picture of it in my head, if it works or not is another problem, but no time to worry about that, I just need to pass this term. Anyhow here is my tutorial write that solves alot of problems.
There will be allot of posts on here over the next 9 weeks so bob ......

Tutorial Write Up.

Problems:

• My work is not clear; the viewer does not see my attentions.
• I don’t quite fully know my own attentions.
• I judge my work aesthetically.
• I am drawn to these aesthetic qualities pattern, mark making, scale, lines, Shades and tone (light and dark) but my prints are too messy and distorted.
• My images are flat and static, no good if I want to create a sense of awe.
• I am more interested with my printmaking techniques, than meaning of my work.
• My film making has the sense of awe, has movement and an atmosphere my prints lack.
• My prints boarders are a problem, they need to exist beyond their boarder.
• Tiff feels I need to clarify my intentions; I can’t avoid politics, what is dystopia, why dystopia over utopia.
• Need to know self, what I want to create
• Need about what the viewer will get from my work

Solutions

• Clarify statement of intent
• Work out, write down- form intro to statement of intent, this is me, this is what I am about; move on to what viewer will get out of my work.
• Clarify what I want to do.
• State what I don’t want and what I do want.
• State that I am trying to create a sense of awe and fright, each piece should answer a question, intention, from statement of intent.
• What do I want the viewer to see?
• Focus more on the what the prints say, not the printing process
• Simplify my prints
• Remove boarders from my prints
• Add depth, awe and atmosphere to my prints
• I could solve problems by layering objects in prints without employing photographs.
• Use the film stills taken from my short film footage, recreate that look create in my film.
• Cover walls with prints of city, in micro and macrocosm.
• Each piece will depict one aspects of me, and answer one question from statement of intent, for example, size – insignifcatent, be watched, unseen wealth, power, and so on.
• Light-shade need get imagery clarified.
• Detail, add detail to my prints to create the above feelings. Example; a human figure against a towering skyscraper.
• Pattern, create a sense of endlessness using pattern, but break that pattern with detail.
• Create, print and present a city that answers the questions asked in my statement of intent (or depicting myself when in contact with my feelings towards the city, the future, sc fi fiction, music and IT).

Its Still going wrong.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 202px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/SaWBdjn-6KI/AAAAAAAAAKI/UALZ03nSFp8/s320/DPP_6003.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5306790080705128610" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 221px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/SaWBbVRrB-I/AAAAAAAAAKA/1hvmCTRHAAE/s320/DPP_600.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5306790042493716450" />
Had an awful group tutorial....Funny I’d just watched the grilling episode of the awesome American Office and fuck I had a grilling. My work sucks....its not all bad... there’s some good aspects about it, but its be those aspects ive been focused on, whiles ignoring the bigger picture (Pun Son) which is …………
What the hell is it!
And if u think it looks like what it is (a cityscape) then why! Well if u thinks it’s a good looking City Scrape and u like the lovely mark making; which my prints do have....the only thing I thought about ...then fair enough. But it’s not good enough and I can do better. The problem is the inspiration and reasons why I do these prints (apart from liking the printmaking process allot) are not getting though. These things are along the lines of feeling small and insignificant in the big, scary world you have no control over, so you don't rally care, but know this and then u have a think and u feel awesome or over welled by it all and u either feel shit or excited by that feeling, I've lost that aspect to my work...because I can't be arsed.
So I need to try and get back in to it.
I have got some Idea of how to achieve that feeling....but you need to be in to it......it....it’s the same it as in On the Road that Neal talks about. Right now I‘ve had a drink and smoke and want to find it, But that’s only because I’ve had a drink and a smoke...its not self.....made.....pure ...so I’m not going to get my sketch book out and try and work towards it....because I still can't be arrested...you have got to feel it...and I can remember when I did (this is sounding like Kurt Cobian’s suicide note .....I just haven’t felt that excited about music in years ...blah) .......so I need to get back to IT or at least do enough to pass this bloody course.
One thing though is pretty clear...it’s that feeling (IT) I want to capture in my work...if I see it then I’m happy... and maybe the viewer would do to and then we are all happy. But if I can’t then there’s nothing I can do really, but just pass this course by getting enough work done. I’m not going to try and get an idea or concept across...because I haven’t got one Its sort of like punk rock....and I like to think of my self as an punk rocker ....its meant to be honest and real, and if it is that , it comes easy, if it doesn’t come easy then what’s the point. I think my work may be like that. Really though I’m just too lazy.

Anyhow working on a print, it’s going ok, but I need to stop and re think everything. I need to get an idea what my final show is going to look like, that’s the next step. After that it’s getting the prints done. Images off that print are below…..or above.

Self Directed Brief

Finished the first draft of my brief....not too sure about it really, i 've had to come up with an reason why I do what I do other than I think it looks cool; because I’m in to dystopian science fiction, comic books and heavy underground music. Even that sounds wanky, not as wanky as my brief thou. I surpose my brief makes some kind of sense....just not happy with all the political bits....my prints do look political...but there are not. Or I am not. I think something Alan Moore said gets it right....all dystopian sc-fi is really an exaggeration of the bad stuff that is going on now ( not his exact words) ...so me doing sc-fi dystopian cities is going to reflect some political, social upheaval going on now.....but I know shit about it. It does concern me a bit but I’m too busy and lazy to go out of my way and ......so on. Another quote from Thom York, something along these lines ( again not exact words) we are all worried about the state we are in. but most of you are too busy living life, luckily I’m paranoid and obsessive enough to find the time to do something about it....it was something like that...but the point is the same. Any how here is my brief

Jonathan Callaghan’s Self Directed Project Statement of Intent

Introduction

Last term I started to develop my printmaking both in theme and technicality. My prints started to become more complex and political. I was somewhat unaware of this political direction my prints were going, and thought about moving away from it. However due to a shocking experience with the Bridgend Terrorist unit; where I was questioned in relation with terrorist activity for downloading images of Police riot equipment, I now feel obliged to continue in this political direction, concerning the government’s infringement on our privacy and urbanisation.

Aims

The aim of this project is too continue to push my work in two pacific areas, the theme and technicality of my printmaking.
The theme of my printmaking, as well as most of my work over the last three years has been along the lines of abstract, urban landscapes, which are heavily influenced by my interest in Science fiction. Thus my work sometimes suggests a sort off dystopian future. It is this suggestion; and also personal experience that I have begun to explore in my more recent work and as a result my work has become somewhat political. However, not being a very political minded person this makes me feel a bit uneasy, however I tread carefully in this direction as I could give my prints an edge; that will make them something more than ambiguous, slightly unnerving urban landscapes to what you could be describe as scenes of urban/ political tension, trouble etc. Thus my prints are a lot more appealing in a way or exciting. However, I don’t necessarily want my work to carry a political statement, I want my prints to remain slightly ambiguous, while also act as a document or a result of today’s urban environment. Hopefully as a result the viewer will be free to interpret or tag on some political statement or view of their own.

Over the last year or so I’ve continually worked with printmaking, I feel that I have reached the point where I feel quite capable of producing a series of accomplish prints. I believe I can achieve these goals by focusing on three aspects of my printmaking:
• Size - my prints often create the sense of infinite space or size despite often being printed on A4 or A3 sized paper, therefore the work would most likely improve if they were a lot bigger in size. I intend to develop a method of making my prints a lot larger within a short timeframe.
• Presentation – When printing I produce a large number of prints depicting different printing methods, and also the development of the print. I am often left with a number of prints some of which could be the finished print. For this project I would like to continue with this process of producing prints as it is very productive, however I would also like to work towards an single finished piece of work or to produce a finished piece of work using a large number of the prints I have produce, be it though collage or displaying the prints together, film, photography, etc.
• Technique - I need to develop my knowledge of printmaking and explore other methods of printmaking such as screen printing, thus allowing me to fully realize my in ideas in my prints.
• Quality, I will produce Clean high quality prints.
Objectives

At the end of this project I hope to produce a series of prints depicting a modern urban landscape that reflects my development in Printmaking, my interest in my Science Fiction and the Political, Social and environmental upheaval of today.

Primary Source

Photography is a key factor in my working process. It is the main source of ideas in the development of my prints. Thus over the last year I have acquired a decent a digital SLR camera and I am teaching myself how to use it correctly. And I will continue to do so in my research for ideas and images. Urban landscapes will be the main focus of my photography and I will be taking regular trips to different locations together research. However I will also use photography to create scenes or still life’s to work from using photomontage, model making and Film.

Another key factor in my working process are the off cuts or trail and error prints I produce whiles printmaking. Rather than working towards one final finished piece, I produce a larger number of prints from the same plate using different printing methods. This means my prints are often devolved in the printmaking studio rather than being sketched out before hand.
I wish to continue and further develop this method of work; as it produces unexpected, interesting and effect results, by using other printmaking techniques such as screen printing.

During my research and devolvement project I produced a short film , I enjoyed the experiences and I wish to continue with that medium incorporating my print making. I have a few ideas of how I plan to this and I am excited by the process, but I am not sure if I would be happy to include the film I produce in my Final year show. This decision would have to be made once the work is completed, however I am sure working with film would inform my printmaking.

Sketch books are a key factor in my working process, in which I map out and try out ideas for my prints. I will continue to use sketch books.

Secondary Sources

The artists who’s work I believe deal with similar themes to mine and who have influenced my work are as followed, Paul noble, Ken Currie, Anselm Kiefer, Jan Soucek, John Virture . Comic book artist/writers such as John Wagner, Alan Grant, Tim Sale, Frank Miller, Klaus Janson, Geor Darrow, Henry Flint, Simon Bisley, Gareth Ennis and Dave Gibbons. The films By Richard kern, James Cameron, George Mileer. And the authors Phillip K Dick, George Orwell, William Burroughs and William Gibson. All of Who’s work I will use to support my own investigation and development.

Context

The context in which to put my prints would be the genre Science Fiction; more pacifically Science fiction concerned with the idea of Orwellian dystopian futures. The aesthetic context of my prints could both work in a gallery as Fine Art prints or perhaps as images in a graphic novel; due to my prints being produced to be shown in a gallery , whiles be massively influenced by the Science fiction comic book art.

Technical Strategies

• Printmaking; Woodcut, Relief and Intaglio, Screen Print. Using pile wood and mount board
• Digital Photography
• In my sketch books, Pencil, Ink, and Acrylic paint
• Collage and Photomontage.

Research Strategies

• I will use my sketch books to produce and develop ideas, and sketches for my prints.
• I will keep a Printmaking and Photography journal to keep a record my development.
• I will keep a secondary journal, in which information and images of other artists and Photographs would be kept for reference.

Snowed

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 198px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/SYt9WgeWMhI/AAAAAAAAAJY/zNnpveXPtbE/s320/DPP_888444.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5299467212159332882" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 187px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/SYt3b543YGI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/diZf8zO684c/s320/DPP_88844444.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5299460707811024994" />
It snowed so I took some photographs, and missed a week of uni...awesome. It didn't quite work, most pics where over exposed, but when I was editing the pics a few cool things occurred......yep. I've be really open with these prints, any idea on how to print the same plate differently I’ve tried and its all come off well; for example I printed the back of my plate and it worked, I got a very noiry, abstract print. So ill post couple of better print here with a little description.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 225px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/SRyIbUpE8iI/AAAAAAAAAIY/9FHQ7dMa5g0/s320/DPP_66119999.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5268235667095482914" />
The above printing was the most successful out of the lot. I just went mad with the yellow and black, always a good combination; but i need to put more thought into what colours I should introduce in my prints; but these prints are just try outs really. Anyway this print was put though the press 4 times I think. Two intaglio prints that got a good clean black line/ out line of the image. Then two prints relief prints, sort of colouring the image in. First I printed a messy thin layer of yellow over the intaglio prints, then I cut the plate down a lot and added more detail with another black relief print. So THERE A LOT OF SCRUFFY MARKS AND DETAIL IN THERE

"Fireforks Night"

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 269px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/SRyEljbXdiI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/OT_GEttgvwo/s320/DPP_3333555.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5268231444816688674" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 159px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/SRyD_uHYkkI/AAAAAAAAAII/Zg4V69hGwPE/s320/DPP_3333.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5268230794850636354" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 182px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/SRyD_ZHvjnI/AAAAAAAAAIA/hL9SJWhS-XI/s320/DPP_6277766.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5268230789214998130" />
Bonfire night the other night awesome time of year brought some cool rockets and took a few good photographs; I really like the one with Trudy and Oliver together by the window, Steven Spielberg comes to mind with that one. Also personally its the part I’m most excited about. Dicking about on the guitar with a few effects pedals and a lot of volume is something i really enjoy, so doing that, editing it down and putting it to go use is gonna be awesome, a first proper PUS recording. Just need some where to record it.
So the images are stills from some footage i shot, using the old torch trick i mastered from my previous short film ( history of the 20th century). Its a bit of a old idea now and doesn't work so well with my prints, so i need something new and i got a few ideas, so towards the end of this project i’m gonna set a week aside for this film. Its the main focus of this project now.

Term A Seven week Plan.

Being doing alot of thinking and not much doingof late, so i have a good idea of what I want to achieve this term. so ive sorted out my statement of intent, done a couple of proposals and drawn out a seven week plan, just need to stick to it; that’s really important, must stick to it!. so ill publish that plan here, thus making it easier for me blog about it here on this blog.
The plan this term basically is…………….I got it into my head that doing a ( I think its called) a triptych of prints, or three prints of the same landscape but from different points of views is a good idea, not sure why, just its seems a aesthetically pleasing thing to do. Also it gives me a lot of room to experiment with mark making techniques and materials,( which is kind of the objectives for this term: experimenting and developing) and its a bit different from what I done before; so i want to achieve that this term. I also want to make another short film, due to the ok success of the last one (History of the 20th century). I've had alot of ideas for this short film, but most of them are not feasible, so my lecture suggested doing something similar to the last film I did but using my prints as the material/subject. Which is a pretty simple idea with a lot of potential. . So got a good idea about how i want it to look (that’s how i do things, image it and try and recreate it, just need to start getting some footage together.
The really cool about this short film is that PUS ( mine and my friend bob’s band) get to dick about with guitars for the soundtrack. Awesome.
Week One: 20th Oct

• Complete Film proposal.
• Complete Printmaking proposal.
• Complete Statement of Intent for Independent Studies.
• Start one of three Prints.
• Start shooting footage for short film.
• Update Blogger with information of project progress images.
• Have a Tutorial with lectures and class mates.

Week Two: 27th Oct

• Complete One of three Prints
• Continue to film footage of development of the Prints for short film.
• Take photographs for primary and secondary research.
• Update Blogger with information of project progress images.
• Have a Tutorial with lectures and class mates.

Week Three: 3rd Nov

• Start the second of three prints.
• Develop print in sketch book.
• Continue to film footage of development of the Prints.
• Take photographs for primary and secondary research.
• Update Blogger with information of project progress images.
• Have a Tutorial with lectures and class mates.

Week Four: 10th Nov

• Arrange Trip to London
• Go to London
• Take photographs for primary and secondary research.
• Go to the following exhitions
• Continue to work on the second of three prints.
• Continue to film footage of development of the Prints.
• Update Blogger with information of project progress images.
• Have a Tutorial with lectures and class mates.

Week Five 17th Nov

• Finish the second of three prints.
• Continue to film footage of development of the Prints.
• Start to develop film footage in to a short film on the computer.
• Start to make the soundtrack for the film.
• Update Blogger with information of project progress images
• Have a Tutorial with lectures and class mates.

Week Six: 24th Nov

• Start the last print of three.
• Continue to film footage of development of the Prints.
• Start to develop film footage in to a short film on the computer.
• Start to make the soundtrack for the film.
• Update Blogger with information of project progress images
• Have a Tutorial with lectures and class mates.

Week Seven: 1St Dec

• Finish the last Print of three.
• Finish editing the short film together.
• Finish editing soundtrack to the short film film.
• Present the three prints and film.

Snowman

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_EiCJ0G3es_w/SP-MH5eQ2TI/AAAAAAAAAHQ/5S3BToX4Ulk/s320/062.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5260076957106755890" />
Well in to the term now, not much is going on again, Why! And at the end of the year ill just print it off, stick in a folder, and hand it in as a journal, nice. There’s also the remote possibility that some one may view this blog and have a look at my work, I think Bob does now and then, and onees the web design classes start up, someone on the course may coming across this blog, so I’m doing this for bob and who ever else.
No work as yet, but here the only good photograph I‘ve taken in the last few weeks.

Butterman

Back From holidays, took a few photos, only one is decent, but it’s a good ‘ne, started a film for my independent studies, just need to find a camera, to film Nothing much going on really, Trudy, work, a bit of Batman mania, reading a lot of comics, watching a lot of Asia films and drinking strongbow.

Looking forward to uni, a lot actually, I’ve got the hunger, gonna be a good end of year show this time round. Nice bloke and the stuff he does; instillations was kind of interesting, he does allot of research and takes allot time with detail in his work , a thing I really appreciate Any how we had a chat about my work, and I spoke about how I felt a bit uncomfortable about my prints being descried as political, because I’m not political minded person really, and I didn’t want my work depicting something I know little about. But he said not to worry to much about it, as u can’t help being political, and its quite ambiguous my prints, u can’t really see what’s going on anyway straight, a lot of it is up to the view work out, ….so I’m happy with that. If people want to see my work as political they can, really though its just me ripping off the science fiction/ comics I’m in to.

So working on a new print, ill post some pics of it later and also doing a series of smaller ones…..trying to fit a 6 weeks wroth of work in to 3 weeks because I’m all out of time. Why I have left it to the last minute again, every term!
 Below are a few recent ramdon photos as i always like oadd a few photos with my text here.

Mototwayatnightneardowlas.

No comic (just finished the preacher saga, fucking epic), nothing on TV so I went out and took some photos. But I leant a lot from it, like how to produce a clean print and how to screen print. So all is not wasted, and just maybe some other might think its pretty cool. I took a lot of photographs some of which I’ll post here with some notes; the rest of them are uploaded on my Flickr…check them out son.
The images above are of two possible final prints can’t decide which I prefer, as they both have big massive faults. One is to messed up in the bottom right corner; where I ruined the stencil on the screen when cleaning. And the other I used a stencil/image I didn’t want as a final image…. but what can you do. . So I did what I could and got thinking its not going well. So I did a print of the plate half cut, to get an idea weather its going to suck or not…. and it did.
I should have stuck with the pile wood and used a nice fine cutting tool, or engraver or something, but that would have taken far to much time, time I didn’t want to spend on a print that I didn’t like. So I printed the plate half cut on to Somerset paper using the press; as I haven’t done a full on collargraph print in a while I took a bit to much ink off, So the print came out looking pretty dull. A happy mistake in way as it let me quickly finish the print off by hand using a ink roller ball pen.... just to get the thing finished, so then I could decided what to do with it. And I’ve deceived to leave it.
It’s not too bad really, but it doesn’t justifed all the time needing to spend on it, to get it up to standard. Also now I think it’s a pretty crappy idea, using the whole big brother concept, with lots of CCTV cameras is a bit too corny and obvious for my likings.
Anyhow the Image at the top of this post is the finished print. Time to start on a new print, and the next one has to be damn big and damn cool.

No more nice weather...

As the weather was nice I went out last week for a walk around where I live with my camera and took some photos of various things, like ducks, hills, etc…the following photos are of a skip filled with dead flowers collected form the local grave yard…pretty cool I thought; pretty sure there some irony on life and death in there somewhere… so here they are. I've changed the music for the film from Sunn))0 / Boris to Whitehouse; if you don't know who these bands are then u should look them up, if u have a need for doom/stoner metal (Boris), or black ambient (Sunn))0), or electronic um... noise (Whitehouse). There was no need to add music to the film really, just thought it be cool to have made a video to one of these cool bands.
The other film is a pretty shitty attempt at a music video for a song by this bloke I know; The Marquis Cha Cha (BOB). The song is called ‘Ruins My Mind; a pretty stupid Emo name yes. Nothing much to say about the video, I just filmed some stuff that’s fits the mood of the song and edited to fit. It works around the quit / loud dynamic of the song.

<object width="320" height="266" class="BLOG_video_class"
