For the past week I’ve being working on this print and it s all gone wrong, A case of pulling what I thought was a good idea out of the air and going straight in to it with out giving it much thought…
I was quite happy with the first few sketches I did so I went straight in to cutting the plate, at first I used pile wood but thought it be a lot simpler and quicker to use mount board. So I did what I could and got thinking its not going well. So I did a print of the plate half cut, to get an idea weather its going to suck or not…. and it did.
I should have stuck with the pile wood and used a nice fine cutting tool, or engraver or something, but that would have taken far to much time, time I didn’t want to spend on a print that I didn’t like. So I printed the plate half cut on to Somerset paper using the press; as I haven’t done a full on collargraph print in a while I took a bit to much ink off, So the print came out looking pretty dull. A happy mistake in way as it let me quickly finish the print off by hand using a ink roller ball pen.... just to get the thing finished, so then I could decided what to do with it. And I’ve deceived to leave it.
It’s not too bad really, but it doesn’t justifed all the time needing to spend on it, to get it up to standard. Also now I think it’s a pretty crappy idea, using the whole big brother concept, with lots of CCTV cameras is a bit too corny and obvious for my likings.
Anyhow the Image at the top of this post is the finished print. Time to start on a new print, and the next one has to be damn big and damn cool.
